Originating as a small surf shop in 1968, South Moon Under has evolved into a unique, upscale fashion retailer. We seek to offer an eclectic mix of interesting, high quality, reasonably priced products that stand out in the market. South Moon Under currently operates 27 stores in the mid-Atlantic area, VA, MD, PA, DE, NJ, CT, and GA in addition to an E-commerce site. Our home base is located in Annapolis, MD.

Senior Human Resources Manager

South Moon Under is committed to creating positive relationships, inspire passion and celebrate purpose for a happier world.  We are actively seeking a Senior Human Resources Manager to join our Corporate Office team to guide and manage the company’s talent acquisition and the overall provisions of the Human Resources services, policies, and programs as well as nurture and protect the vision, mission, values, and culture of South Moon Under.

  LEADERSHIP:

  • Lead the strategic plan to build a strong team and work culture; creating an inclusive work environment that embodies South Moon Under vision, mission, and values.   • Develop a leadership training program that is consistently pushing leaders to excel and ensure that all management teams are working on a succession plan that works to develop the next level of leaders. Develop, mentor and coach the team.
  • Design and implement a more strategic, proactive recruitment program that is focused on talent acquisition from top retail competitors.
  • Investigate employee complaints/concerns 

 

ADMINISTRATIVE AND MANAGEMENT: 

  • Recommend, develop, implement and communicate HR policies and objectives including policy changes and initiatives in all functional work areas to meet the current and changing Company plans and goals. Insure that timing of communication and content have been vetted.
  • Evaluate and oversee administration of benefit programs and recommend improvement
  • Direct and monitor annual performance appraisal program to ensure timely review of employee performance, consistent with Company policy.
  • Ensures company compliance with all existing governmental and labor legal and government reporting. 
  • Create training programs designed to address key initiatives and/or compliance requirements for managers and/or employees
  • Develop, budget and implement positive employee events
  • Manage the development and maintenance of the HR sections of company portal and intranet
  • Maintain strict standards and procedures for securing all HR & payroll information, records and files

PARTNERSHIP: 

  • Collaborate on development of HR goals, objectives, and systems, establishing departmental measurements that support the accomplishment of strategic goals
  • Provide guidance to management and supervisory staff, as needed, with regard to general employment practices. Counsel employees and managers on issues that arise with respect to policies, benefits, performance and other HR concerns. Keeps current with employment regulations that may directly impact Company operations
  • Partner with management to communicate HR policies, procedures, programs and laws
  • Advise/monitor management in the progressive discipline process of the company

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

Education:         Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business or related field

Experience:       8+ plus years of progressive leadership experience in Human Resources positions, preferably in the retail industry

Skills:                    

  • Broad knowledge and experience in employment law, compensation, payroll, organizational planning, organization development, employee relations, safety, and training and development
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills
  • Positive attitude and team player
  • Comfortable working as an individual contributor and manager in a fast-paced, dynamic, high-energy environment
  • Exceptional work ethic and roll up your sleeves hands-on approach
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop Human Resources department members
  • Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment.  Must include Excel and skills in computer systems data management, reporting and record keeping
  • Strong knowledge of various employment laws and practices
  • Practice a high level of confidentiality
  • Excellent organizational and follow-through skill 

 

Sales Associate

 
Status: Full-Time and Part-Time Employee
Location: All store locations
 
At South Moon Under, members of the team create an exciting and inspiring shopping experience for our customers. We utilize product knowledge and selection to provide exceptional service to our customers. In addition, we build sales and provide a store experience that reflects South Moon Under's customer service standards and aesthetic. In addition to selling, our sales associates are expected to execute merchandising tasks, such as stock, re-merchandising, display, price markdowns, and transfers. All members of our store team work together to ensure a clean, pleasant and safe shopping environment for our customers.
 
The ideal candidate will be available to work a flexible schedule based on business needs that include daytime, evening, weekends and holiday shifts. We can provide flexibility in scheduling, a fun exciting environment, and a generous employee discount.

1st and 2nd Assistants

 
Status: Full-Time and Part-Time Employee
Location: All store locations
 
At South Moon Under, members of the management team serve as leaders in their store, coaching and developing the staff to provide an outstanding level of customer service that will, in turn, maximize sales and profits. All of our Assistant Managers must have a complete understanding of the South Moon Under philosophy, aesthetic and customer.
 
The South Moon Under 1st and 2nd Assistants possesses strong leadership skills. They work closely with the sales staff to deliver product knowledge, drive sales and uphold operational standards. They have excellent communication skills and a full understanding of how to motivate people.
 
Successful candidates must be available to work a flexible schedule based on business needs that include daytime, evening, weekends and holiday shifts, as well as having at least one year of retail management experience, preferably in a specialty retail environment.
